How Ethically Advanced Is Japan?

While continuing to ignore the pains and calls for an apology by fellow Asians who suffered, Japan has trembled with fear every time the United States, Canada, Germany or other Western nation began criticizing it. Japan may be an economic powerhouse. But when it comes to a sense of morality and ethics, Japan is probably one of the world’s poorest nations.

Interestingly, in what might be an attempt at damage control, the last line is translated differently for the Japanese language version.

しかし成熟度や精神年齢の面では、それに見合った発達を遂げることはできなかったようだ。

However it seems as though [Japan's] development in terms of morals and ethics could not match [it's economic development].

Agh. Being a Korean, these kinds of things constantly remind me that many people in Korea are still blind.

(Many, not most. I would still say that most Koreans are level headed. ^_^)

Ah, I also think that it should be put in perspective that this is an editorial, and is the sole opinion of one person. Whew. Haha.
